• Virender Sehwag: A sentimental favourite who can terrorise bowling attacks. He will also be keen on letting Indian selectors know he is not to be forgotten

• Mitchell Johnson: He has always had the speed, but is increasingly getting his lines right. Is also capable of massive hitting

• Quinton de Kock: South African wicketkeeper-batsman smashed three consecutive ODI tons against India in December last year

• Aaron Finch: The in-form Australian is relentless in attack and has the ability to tonk the ball hard and long to all parts of the ground

• Morne Morkel: The South African’s steepling bounce and pace are an attractive combination. Can be counted on to deliver his 4 overs every match.

• Brendon McCullum: The Kiwi set the inaugural IPL on fire and is capable of turning it on again. Coming off a Test double century, he could be doubly dangerous

• M Vijay: CSK have not retained him, but will probably want to have him again at the top. He looks classy even when indulging in brutal hitting

• Dinesh Karthik: He brings the combination of a livewire wicketkeeper and talented batsman to the table and can be a match-winner
